The Bible is by far the world’s best-selling book, but why should you read it?

5 Reasons to Open the Bible

1. Discover who God is

John, a follower of Jesus from 2000 years ago, wrote in John 1:18 that “no one has ever seen God,” except for His Son, Jesus. To understand who God is, we need to listen to Jesus—the only person who has ever known God fully.

How can we learn what Jesus taught about God? By reading the Bible.

2. Hear from God about God

Many people today have a deeply distorted and unattractive view of God, which leads them to reject faith entirely.

Where can we find an accurate understanding of God? By opening the Bible and listening to God as He speaks about Himself, us, and the world around us.

3. Find Faith

The follower of Jesus, John, wrote his Gospel to help us “believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing we may have life in His name” (John 20:30).

By reading the Bible, we encounter the teachings and life of Jesus, which God can us to lead us to faith.

In the sermon below, Pastor Colin defines faith, explaining how it comes from “hearing, and hearing comes from the word of Christ.”

4. Be Transformed

Paul, one of Jesus’ earliest followers, wrote that we can be ‘transformed by the renewing of [our] mind’ Romans 12:2.

When we look at our lives, we all recognise that we’re not what we ought to be, that we’re not what we want to be.

Want to explore this more? In the sermon below Pastor Colin explores how ‘real Christianity is about the life of God being formed within you’.

5. Learn How to Live

Today, our lives seem to be filled with more challenges than ever before. How can we navigate these complexities and find our way through the difficulties we face? The answer can be found by opening the Bible and discovering one key word: Wisdom. According to Pastor Colin, wisdom is “very simply the skill that you need to put together a successful life.”

The sermon below is part of the series “Wisdom in Life.” Listen to learn more about God’s wisdom and how it can guide you in living a successful life.
