Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven.
1 corinthians 15:49
This is a marvellous promise. We grieve because of how like Adam we are. How easily tempted. How prone to make excuses. How quick to blame others. How ready to hide from God. We bear the image of the man of dust!
But if you are in Christ, you will also “bear the image of the man of heaven.” You love God. You want to know Him and to serve Him. You hunger and thirst for righteousness. You long to be holy, and all these desires will be satisfied. “We have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven”! (15:49).
Writing to believers, John says, “Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him” (1 John 3:2).
Your body is going to be raised, as the body of Jesus was raised. Your soul will be made perfect, as Jesus is perfect. You will share a glorious new life in the presence of God as Jesus is right now, at the right hand of the Father. That’s what lies ahead of you. And John says, “Everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure” (1 John 3:3).
Rejoice in all the ways that you will one day be made like Jesus.
